From the desk of Bishop Jim Whitfield

Positioning for Supernatural Provision

We are facing challenging economic times. I will not belabor that point for all of us are reminded of that fact in many ways. The Bible teaches God's people to position themselves for miracles of provision when natural resources are hard hit. Biblical examples abound:

  • Joseph's seven years of plenty and scarcity in Egypt
  • Moses and manna in the wilderness
  • Elijah at the brook
  • the widow and her son
  • the lad with his lunch

The word from God was position yourselves for provision. The teaching of the prophets, Jesus, and Paul all lend insight to supernatural provisions in tight times.

I encourage every minister and church to be positioned in your giving to God for some supernatural provisions this new year. We all will possibly need some miracles this year. God is faithful to those who place themselves in a generous position before Him. Allow me to sight one example from one of our churches.

Pastor T. E. Long and the Shiloh Church united together in believing for a 10% increase in tithes and offerings for 2009. They believed God would be especially generous to those who were generous toward His kingdom's work. The end result was that in the midst of an economic downturn, their tithes and offerings increased 19% ($57,633) plus an $11,000 increase in missions (total missions, $52,000). The attendance of this 94-year old church is on the rise. God is moving by His Spirit.

I share this information with you by permission from Pastor Long to encourage many others who are feeling the challenge of tight times. I encourage one and all to take the next step of generous giving as we position ourselves and our churches for miracles of provision in 2010. I am praying and believing God with each and every one of our ministers and churches for God's generosity as we, out of gratitude to Him, are generous in our support of His kingdom work this year. Let's begin today and continue through the year. .
